Governing Body Structure

The Governing Body is an essential part of every school. At
Clayton-le-Woods CE Primary School, our Governing Body is made up of staff, parents and members of the local community.

Each Governor serves a term of office of 4 years. There are five types of Governor that make up our Governing Body.

They are:

Foundation Governors:

Our Foundation Governors are appointed by St Johns Church Whittle-le-Woods Parochial Church Council.

Local Authority Governors:

These Governors are appointed by the local authority (Lancashire County Council) or nominated by the local authority and appointed by the Governing Board.

Parent Governors:

Parents or carers of registered pupils at the school are eligible to stand for election as Parent Governors. They are elected by other parents at the school. If insufficient parents stand for election, the Governing Body can appoint Parent Governors.

Staff Governors:

Staff Governors are elected by the school staff. Both teaching and support staff employed to work at the school are eligible for staff governorship; volunteers are not eligible.

Headteacher

The Headteacher has a place on the Governing Body, unless they choose not to be a Governor. The Headteacher's position cannot be filled by anybody else.

The composition of the Governing Body is referred to as the Instrument of Government. The composition of
