Church Of England Primary School

Olympic Sport Grant

Following on from the successful London 2012 Summer Olympics, schools in the UK are being allocated a sum of money to support all children and to improve the quantity, quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. This allocation is calculated according to school intake and it is the schools responsibility to decide how best to use this money.

Here at Clayton-le-Woods CE Primary we have decided to use this money in several ways:

  • To employ qualified coaches to work alongside teachers
  • To use expert advice to evaluate our school's strengths and weaknesses and implement a plan for improvement
  • To allow access to a wide range of sports
  • To provide club links for each sport we take part in
  • To ensure that there is a greater awareness amongst the pupils about the dangers of obesity, smoking and other factors which would undermine their health
  • To ensure that all children have an awareness and understanding to disability, both physical and mental, and the boundaries which can be broken with sport
  • To pay for trips and transport to sporting events
  • To ensure that all classes experience inter-school competitive sport
  • To ensure that all children by the age of 5 can successfully ride a bike without stabilisers
  • To ensure that all pupils can swim at least 25m by the end of KS2
  • To increase the number of pupils who actively engage in sport
