Prevent Strategy

At Clayton-le-Woods Church of England Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils. Our Prevent Strategy aims to prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism or supporting extremist ideologies. We recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability.
Key Principles and Responsibilities
Fundamental British Values: All staff members are expected to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British values, including:
    - Democracy: Encouraging open dialogue, active participation, and respect for diverse opinions.
    - Rule of Law: Teaching pupils about laws, rights, and responsibilities.
    - Individual Liberty: Fostering independence, critical thinking, and personal choices.
    - Mutual Respect and Tolerance: Promoting understanding and acceptance of different faiths and beliefs.
The Prevent Duty: As of 1 July 2015, the Prevent duty (section 26) of The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 mandates local authorities to prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism. Our school fully supports this duty.
Risk Assessment and Protection.
    - We assess the risk of children being drawn into terrorism.
    - Robust safeguarding policies are in place to protect children and young people from radicalisation.
Implementation
1. Training and Awareness
    - All staff receive training on recognising signs of radicalisation and extremism.
    - We raise awareness among pupils through age-appropriate discussions and activities.
Curriculum Integration:
    - The Prevent Curriculum is embedded across subjects, promoting critical thinking, resilience, and understanding.
    - We teach pupils about the dangers of extremism and the importance of tolerance.
Early Intervention and Support:
    - Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (Mrs. S. Bashora, Mr. P. Howard, Mrs. S. Hogg and Mrs. K. Howlett) identify and support children at risk.
    - We collaborate with external agencies, such as the Children and Family Wellbeing Service (CFWS), to provide early help.
Online Safety:
    - We educate pupils about safe online behavior and the risks associated with extremist content.
Conclusion
Our Prevent Strategy ensures a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils. By promoting understanding, tolerance, and vigilance, we contribute to a resilient and cohesive community.
