How we use AI

We embrace the use of AI to enhance learning and are currently exploring safe and effective ways to improve outcomes for our children. One impactful application is using AI-generated images to bring children's descriptive writing to life.

In 2025–2026, staff will receive training on the benefits, risks, and implications of AI from the DfE, Google, DBE Services (our school improvement partner, and the University of Lancashire. All AI use will align with our safeguarding policies and be fully GDPR compliant.

Our primary AI tool is Microsoft Copilot, a licensed, GDPR-compliant model under Lancashire County Council’s governance. It does not store or use data for training and keeps all information within the UK.

We share with our children the expectations for safe use of the internet as a whole and AI models through these child friendly Acceptable Use Policies:

Our Data Protection Privacy Notice has also been updated to reflect the use of AI in school.
